Illinois is the biggest market in the Midwest and home to over 22,000 corporate headquarters, a vibrant entrepreneurial scene, and more than 1.2 million small-scale businesses, offers all the resources that global businesses require to succeed in the modern business. The world's best infrastructure connects businesses to suppliers and customers to talented workforce in various industries as well as a modern manufacturing base - Illinois is a leader in many areas such as advanced and clean energy, agribusiness, IT life sciences transportation logistics.

Illinois has seen a huge expansion of foreign investments in recent years. Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the top countries investing in Illinois and by 2023, this amount was over USD $13.2 billion in the agribusiness, manufacturing and manufacturing sectors in Illinois all by itself.

Since 2014, over $1 billion in incentives have been given out under Illinois' Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to businesses that offer electric vehicles and renewable energy production. The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University is funded by a co-operative arrangement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center provides entrepreneurs from the local area with help in the creation or expansion of their businesses through programs such as free business planning workshops, one-on-one counseling sessions with experienced Business Advisors and access to financing options.

State officials in Indiana are pushing employers to offer better pay and benefits as a way of keeping child care workers working across the nation as they face a shortage of employment. The decision comes after the closing of a children's care center in Bronzeville where it was difficult to retain employees.

Illinois Department of Labor also introduced an online tool to educate small businesses on labor laws. Employers can search by keyword or browse through categories on this site, and connect to appropriate state agencies and information sources.
